People often ask me why I am such a fervent opponent of hormonal birth control - and this is why:
I've talked to more 20-something stroke survivors than I care to count, and I've hugged mothers who lost their daughters to birth control induced pulmonary embolisms. And I've helped young women who got so violently ill from taking birth control pills that they aspirated from vomiting in their sleep and almost died.
Strokes and DVTs and pulmonary embolisms and severe disablement are not as rare of risks as you would like to think. This is bad medicine. And it doesn't treat or heal anything.... all-the-while coming with a known and real risk of death and disablement for far too many women.
There are other options that are based on better science and won't mame or kill you. I teach people how their bodies *actually* work and not a single one of them ever experiences increased risk of death as a result of working with me or from anything I recommend. They leave my care healthier, happier, more knowledgeable, and empowered to make better decisions regardless of what their reproductive goals may be. Everyone deserves to know the truth.
Maybe the best question we can all ask ourselves is why we are willing to accept bad medical advice that doesn't seek to heal us or resolve our health concerns, but instead just compounds them...
